for a lesser price. | | | | Einige Menschen mögen im Urlaub nicht in einer Siedlung wohnen, doch ich finde, hier ist der Spagat zwischen altem, irischen Stil und moderner Siedlung gelungen. Es gibt hier drei Doppelhäuser, von denen nur eines als Urlauberhaus vermietet wird.
Auch dieses Haus sollte anfangs kein Ojekt zum Vermieten sondern das Heim der Eigentümerin werden. Sie fand aber dann in einem anderen County eine Anstellung. Die Liebe zum Detail ist deutlich geblieben. Das Haus ist sehr behaglich.
Der Ring of Kerry führt direkt an der kleinen Siedlung vorbei, so dass man im Handumdrehen alle möglichen Ausflugsziele ansteuern kann.
Ganz in der Nähe des Dörfchens Glenbeigh verspricht diese Unterkunft abends fußläufig ein gutes Essen und ein gepflegtes Glas Bier und tagsüber ist sie ein idealer Ausgangspunkt für Autotouren zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten der drei Halbinseln Iveragh, Dingle und Beara. | | Some people might not like to stay in a holiday village but here one has to think twice. There are three semi-detached houses of which only one is let as a holiday home.
In de beginning Dan Mháire was supposed to be a home to the owner who then had to leave Kerry to find a job someplace else. However the love that she put into the house she wanted to live in is clearly still present. Everything is neat and comfy and every detail carefully chosen.
The result is a really snug house where on can forget about stress for a while without having to miss out on the craic going on in the village pub. In front of the house one can hear the road. Inside it is quiet, A safe footpath leads to the village where good food and drink is to be found – which means a lovely pint of Guinness is only about 300 yards away. | | | |

| | | Glenbeigh ist ein kleines, attraktives Dorf. Es liegt hufeisenförmig eingebettet in eine Hügelkette mit dem 493 m hohen Seefin Mountain. Die beiden Flüsse Caragh und Behy umschließen das Dorf von beiden Seiten und münden im Hafen von Castlemain ins Meer.
Der Halbkreis der wunderschönen Hügellandschaft vom Seefin bis zum Drung Hill nennt sich das „Glenbeigh-Hufeisen“ und ist ein Teil des großen „Kerry-Way“, welcher einer der schönsten Bergwanderwege Irlands ist.
Eine Besonderheit dieser Wanderstrecke ist eine Reihe von Gletscher-Kesseln und –Seen, welche am Anfang des Behytals liegen. | | Glenbeigh, a small and very attractive fishing and holiday village, lies snug in the horseshoe of hills and 493 metre-high Seefin Mountain. The Caragh River and the Behy River flow at either side of the village into Castlemaine Harbour.
The mountain scenery here is magnificent, and the circuit of the hills from Seefin to Drung Hill, called the "Glenbeigh Horseshoe", part of the greater "Kerry Way", is one of Kerry's finest mountain walks.
A feature of the circuit is the series of glacial corries and lakes, which lie at the head of the Behy valley. | | | | |

Hinter dem Haus kann man direkt am Fluss sitzen oder auch mal einen Grillabend genießen.

Behind the house one can sit on the picnic bench or have BBQ right beside the river.
 Und wenn es mal nur ein Spaziergang durch die Dünen sein soll, so liegt Rossbeigh Beach nur 3km entfernt. Will man die Düne ein Mal umwandern, braucht man ungefähr zwei Stunden (ohne Steinesammeln).
Die Steine muss man übrigens im Flughafen wieder abgeben, wenn sie im Handgepäck verstaut sind. Ist uns auch passiert. Ich muss zugeben, dass wir natürlich die schönsten ausgesucht hatten.
And if one only wants to go for a walk around the dunes – Rossbeigh Beach is just about 3km away. It takes you about two hours to do a full round. That is if you do not count the time you spend collecting stones.
Anyway – the officer in Kerry Airport will take them off you if they are stored in your hand luggage. It happened to us. I must confess we did take the loveliest ones.
